A RARE CASED 12mm (PERRIN THICK-RIM) SIX-SHOT AUTO-EXTRACTING REVOLVER, MODEL 'GALAND & SOMERFIELD PATENT', serial no. 3196, WITH SHOULDER-STOCK,
circa 1870, with octagonal 4 3/4in. barrel, dove-tailed fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight on the recoil shield, plain open frame, plain stepped cylinder, smooth walnut grips with lanyard ring at heel, the backstrap with escutcheoned aperture for a folding wire butt-stock attached via a nut at the pommel, the action opening mechanism located beneath the barrel with the hinged lever forming the trigger-guard, the whole in near unblemished 'in the white' finish as supplied, Liege proofs and appearing little used; TOGETHER WITH its maker's embossed chequered leather covered storage case with rounded corners and further embossed tram-lines to the lid, the closure flange affixed with small dome-headed brass tacks, the interior compartmented and lined in dark red velvet in the Continental fashion, the padded inner lid with gilded blocked letters reading 'GALAND, FABRICANT D'ARMES, PARIS, 3. RUE RICHER .3' (tarnished), the tray containing the pistol with the shoulder-stock attached but folded, a cleaning rod, wire brush, jag and loop end, oil-bottle and turn-screw, together with two lidded compartments with florally embossed edges, the front with brass lock and key
